Landfill Type Definitions
- Class I Landfill:
A municipal landfill or a commercial landfill solely under contract with a local government taking - municipal waste generated
within the boundaries of the local government and receiving, on a yearly average, over 20 tons - of solid waste per day.
- Class II Landfill:
A municipal landfill or a commercial landfill solely under contract with a local government taking - municipal waste generated
within the boundaries of the local government and receiving, on a yearly average, 20 tons, or less, - of solid waste per day.
- Class III Landfill:
A non-commercial landfill that is to receive only industrial solid waste, but excluding farms and ranches. - Class III landfills
are regulated by Rule R315-304. Class IIIa may receive conditionally exempt small quantity generator waste Class IIIb may not
- Class IV Landfill:
A non-commercial landfill the receives only waste regulated under R315-305 (C/D, yard waste etc.) Class IVa may receive
conditionally exempt small quantity generator waste Class IVb may not.
- Class V Landfill:
A commercial landfill which receives any non-hazardous solid waste for disposal, some Class V landfills may have waste
restricted by permit.
- Class VI Landfill:
A commercial landfill which is restricted to construction and demolition waste
